Beating an Opponent
In football, you beat an opponent by using speed, changes of pace, or a technical feint.
⚽️
To beat a defender successfully, make your move when you are approximately 1 metre away from the opponent.
⚽️
Vary your speed and change direction to catch the defender off balance.
⚽️
Keep your body between the ball and the defender.
⚽️
Take the defender on towards your preferred side or the defender’s weaker side.
⚽️
Dribble towards the defender at high speed, make your take-on move, and accelerate immediately once you have beaten them.
⚽️
Beat your opponent not only with complicated tricks, but above all with the right timing and speed.
Beating Move
If the defender positions themselves so that they are trying to force you towards the sideline or into a corner, attack them on the opposite side. This forces the defender to turn before they can recover.
⚽️
If you are facing the defender head-on, make a feint approximately 1 metre away from them—for example, feint to the right and then take the ball past them on the left.
Keep scanning for teammates making runs. Play the ball into their path, continue your own run, or deliver a cross.
